A política salarial do período 1979/85: alguns aspectos dinâmicos

Abstract

The seven legal apparatus defining the wage policy during President Figueiredo's administration (197985), might be seen as simple variations of the original model expressed by the Law n.° 6.708 of 1979. A general formula derived by Barbosa (1983) describes quite precisely that mechanism of nominal wage readjustment. This paper uses that formula to unify the analysis of the dynamics of the real wages and real wage bill of the Brazilian economy during that period. The main results are: a) the methodology used by other authors overvalues the estimates of the influence of the wage law on the real average wage and on the real wage bill; b) the error of those estimates are extremely elevate to be acceptable.
