Estrutura industrial e exportação de manufaturados no Brasil: 1978
Abstract
This paper analyses the export performance of Brazilian manufacturing industry. The approach is based on recent efforts attempting to integrate the fields of international economics and industrial organization. The work resorts to a cross-section analysis and can be considered as an alternative approach to the more conventional time series analysis. The theoretical model proposes an association between the export performance (measured by the ratio of exports to total sales) of diferent industries and their major structural characteristics. Other variables suggested by theory and empirical evidence of international trade are also included. The main finding is that the market power as manifested in high industrial concentration exerts a positive and significant influence on that performance. In this sense, if exports are to be promoted, industrial concentration should not be hindered.Downloads
