Abstract

The aim of this article is to estimate the requirements of transport modals (road, rail, airways and marine) by sectors exporting to Mercosur, European Union, NAFTA and rest of the world. This is accomplished by building a hybrid input-output matrix for the Brazilian economy in 2003 that incorporates the modals of transports as sectors. Thus, we have an inter-sectoral hybrid input-output model. The requirements coefficients show the more relevant sectors in terms of transport modal demand. The results indicate that geography issues influence the use of transport mode when Brazil exports to Mercosur, European Union, NAFTA and rest of the world.
