This study analyzes how location, household composition and lifestyle variables affect the purchase propensity for 25 fruits and vegetables. We estimated a disaggregated demand system using the QUAIDS model by two-stage Shonkwiller and Yen procedure. Data was extracted from POF 2008-2009. Results showed that the decision to purchase healthy products depends on household composition and location. Concerning the variables that express consciousness about health, results imply that policies that underscore the informational problems related to obesity and addictions, as well as aware individuals to prefer a more healthy diet and avoid idleness, are also important in improving Brazilian eating habits.Downloads
