Abstract

This article presents a study of the seasonality of the electric energy consumption in Brazil for the period 1976/97, using non-parametric seasonal decomposition STL, with information resumed in monthplots. Our assessment covers five Brazilianís macro-regions for the industrial, residential, commercial, rural and public sector consumptionís classes. It was verified the existence of a strong seasonal component of the consumption that has changed along the period. The main conclusion is that the seasonal differences, either between regions or consumption classes, can bring potential gains in the energy transference between regions or by specific energy policies for each class. This study contribute for the measurement of this opportunities.
