This study investigates two important questions regarding performance in the evaluation of the International Student Assessment Program (Pisa) 2012. Initially, it is estimated the intergenerational transmission of education. Then, a counterfatual analysis is made, derived from an increase in the parental socioeconomic level of the students who took the exam. The main results point to an incipient parental educational transmission in the countries of South America. Specifically in Brazil, it is estimated to be approximately seven times lower than that found in the Czech Republic and 20% of the total found in France and Japan. In addition, there is an average gap for parental education of around 8%, where 2% of this difference is explained by parental educational level of distribution.Downloads
