Abstract

The objective of the present study was to verify the effect of domestic work on the income of men and women, and its contribution to explain the wage gap. For this, using PNAD Contínua data from 2019, income regressions were estimated for men and women and then the Oaxaca-Blinder decomposition was performed. The results indicated a negative association between household chores that require more manual labor and the income from work obtained by men and women. However, this effect is greatest for women. From the decomposition of income, it was found that the inclusion of household chores leads to a reduction in the observed and unobserved effect of the decomposition of income.
