Evolução e determinantes da rotatividade da mão-de-obra nas firmas da indústria paulista na década de 1990
Abstract
This paper analyses the evolution and determinants of labor churning — the substitution of workers in firms. We restrict our attention to the formal sector of industry, in the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo, between 1991 and 1998, which are the situations contemplated in the data base that was used. We show that churning was responsible for more than half of the labor turnover, which includes the job reallocation between firms. We show that labor churning does not significantly change the skill characteristics of the firms employees. Finally, we estimate a panel data econometric model, using data disaggregated by firms. We conclude that an increase in the unemployment rate, at the aggregate level, reduces churning. Besides, an increase in employment at the sector level increases churning.Downloads
