Impacto da participação das mulheres na evolução da distribuição de renda do trabalho no Brasil
Abstract
This paper seeks to evaluate the effect of the increase in female participation on the evolution of income inequality in Brazil. In order to do so, we estimate female labor supply models for 1982 and 1997 and simulate how inequality would look like if the observable characteristics or the returns to these characteristics had remained constant as their 1982 values. We conclude that the changes in the coefficients of the participation equation—mainly the coefficients of age, regions and number of children—were the main factors that explain the reduction of labor income inequality observed between 1982 and 1997.Downloads
