A proteção nominal da agricultura e o regime cambial -1972/94
Abstract
Several studies have been developed to evaluate the impact of changes related to the trade liberalization process on the industrial sector in the Brazilian economy. This study evaluates the impacts of the rate of nominal protection for tradable agricultural products. For that purpose, domestic and external prices are compared using the official nominal exchange rate, and an estimate based on the theory of Purchasing Power Parity (PPP). The results suggest that the way in which trade liberalization has been conducted in Brazil inhibited the reduction of implicit taxation for agricultural products. The importance of looking for ways to implement a more integrated and equilibrated inter-sectoral development is emphasized.Downloads
