Abstract

The Brazilian economy has -for a whole decade -presented its worst economic indicators ever recorded, at the same time that industrial exports grew at a very rapid pace, mainly industrialized products. These indicators have induced some analysts to find in the dynamism of exports an important and increasing source of growth. The concern with the competitiveness of domestic producers started to rank high in the agenda of economic policies, both for the importance of exports and for the higher exposure to competing imports they have experienced in recent years. This article shows the main results of an enquiry about several topics related to competitiveness of the Brazilian industrial sector, processing the primary data of the firms in accordance to their involvement with the export activity.
