Abstract

This paper analyzes the empirical evidence of the impact of public infrastructure over productivity and output growth. Estimates from three different classes of data samples - time series data for the U -S., micro data for U.S. industries and cross-country data - are studied. We present the main results of the literature and add some new evidence. We show that the estimates confirm the hypothesis of a supply side role for government affecting productivity. We also present evidence that previous results rejecting this hypothesis are not robust to small changes in the model being tested.
