Abstract

In the last two decades, the Contingent Evaluation Method has been used in many economic problems of measurement in which price is not observable. When it occurs, researchers must develop econometric models to estimate this parameter and test some hypothesis. In this paper, we use contingent evaluation to estimate the average and median willingness to pay (WTP) values for recovering the historical patrimony, including buildings, streets, squares and many other historical patrimony in seven Brazilian historical centers. A survey has been made in three representative cities and the WTP was estimated by three econometric models. The results reveal that people have distinct preference that is expressed by statistically significant difference of WTP values between the city projects considered.
