Abstract

Costs due to the use of environmental goods and services are not fully accounted into income measures. This study is an attempt to estimate costs stemming from of household water uses in the urban areas of Brazil and their relationship to household final consumption values. Since these estimations are not straightforward, two methods were adapted. One considers the health costs associated to water degradation while other determines the investments required to avoid these damages. The results will also contribute to the economic analysis of sanitation services in the country.
