Abstract

This paper analyses how the competitiveness of Brazilian exports evolved in the 1980188 period. Supply and demand indicators - that measure, respectively, the mark-up of exports and the relative price of Brazil's exports vis-à-vis her main competitors - are built for 36 sectors. The indicators remain stable in the first three years, improve in the 1983185 period and deteriorate after 1986 Competitiveness seems to have increased more for metal-mechanics, whereas primary and agroindustrial activities performed the worse.
