Automação bancária e mudança na produtividade: a experiência brasileira
Abstract
The extent of banking automation in Brazil is possibly unparalleled among industrializing economies. It is attributed to high inflation, the geographical spread of bank branches, and the large financial resources available to the banking sector. Banks, moreover, took on an active role in the development of the banking automation segment of the computer industry. An assessment of the impact of banking automation on productivity change reveals a strong positive impact, in the sense that measures of diffusion are highly correlated with productivity indicators. Finally, an efficient interface between the Central Bank system and that of commercial banks facilitated macroeconomic management and dampened financial instability through more effective banking supervision.Downloads
