Abstract

This article discusses the possible effects of commercial liberalization on the functional income distribution. With this purpose we develop a simple macroeconomic model wich makes it possible to study the different patterns of adjustment of an economy to a process of commercial liberalization. We study the possible effects of liberalization on income distribution between wages and profits and on the level of employment in the Brazilian industry. We conclude that the results depend basically on changes in labor productivity and the profit margin during the process.
