Abstract

We study the correlation between the level of output, on the one hand, and the productivity of labour, the product wage, the real wage, and the wage share, on the other hand using two digit data for the Brazilian industry between 1976 and 1985. We conclude that the productivity behaves pro-cyclely whereas the wage share behaves anti-cyclely. We could not identify any pattern for the behavior of the real and product wage. At the end, we test the Kaleckian hypothesis, according to which there is a positive correlation between the share of wages and the level of the output the test refutes the hypothesis.
