Interpretando variações nos índices de desigualdade de Theil

Abstract

This paper offers an alternative and more intuitive way of interpreting variations in the two Theil inequality indices - Theil T and Theil L The changes in the distribution are summarized by simple schemes of taxes and subsidies that replicate the observed changes in inequality, as measured by those indices. The technique is applied, for the sake of illustration, to the evolution of the Brazilian earnings distribution from 1977 to 1985.
