Abstract

This paper analyses empirically the effects of collective bargaining on nominal and real wages and in the real costs of labour to the industrial sector of São Paulo. It also analyses the possibility that the highly unstable Brazilian economic policies after 1986, generated a tendency to increase prices above the increase in costs of production, specially nominal wages, as a defensive atitude of firms to the recurrent utilization of prices freezes to stabilize the economy.
