Padrões de crescimento dos países em desenvolvimento na década de 80
Abstract
This paper reviews the economic performance of developing countries during the 1980s and in particular during the last two years. The average GDP growth rate in the developing countries was 4.1 percent in the 1980188 period, exceeding that in the industrial countries. A number of dynamic countries, largely in Asia, have done exceedingly well but unfortunately many countries, typically is sub-Saharan Africa, regressed during this period. The highly-in debted countries have generally stagnated. Critical domestic policies appear to include investment rate, stability of incentives and real effective exchange rates while key' external factors include buoyancy of the world economy, terms of trade, and the ability of the country to adjust their export profile to estabilish market share in OECD markets. The investment performance is related to the need to service external debt obligations and ability to provide a climate conducive to domestic savings.Downloads
