Abstract

Education hots been an important factor contributing to increased agricultural production and yields in developed countries. The contribution of education to agriculture in developing nations has ,-generated some controversies. This study analyzes the impact of education on agriculture in a modem. region and in a traditional region of the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. A model based on a Cobb-Douglas production function is used. The results showed that education contributes significantly to agriculture in both regions. The disaggregation of the impact of education in "worker effect" and "allocation effect" showed that both effects are positive in the modern region, but only Bart of the "allocation effect" (the resource allocation effect) was positive in the traditional region.
