Abstract

The objective of this paper is to analyze the income growth determinants of Brazilian municipalities between 1980 and 1991. The paper shows that there was a conditional convergence of the per capita income during this period and that the rate of growth was influenced by economic specialization, regional factors, human capital, wealth and infra-structure. These results suggest that these factors must be considered in the definition of the local development strategies.
