Estimação de elasticidades variáveis no mercado de trabalho do Chile

Abstract

Economic reforms and changes in policy modify the relationship between employment and real salaries and between employment and output. The main purpose of this article is to examine the changing nature of these relationships in the Chilean labor market during the 1974'85 period, during which reforms and police• modifications abounded. Kalman's Filter technique was used to obtain econometric estimates of variable elasticities. By obtaining the dynamic trajectories of the coefficients it is possible to: a) clearly identify those changes in macroeconomic policy that have a greater bearing on the modification of the values of these coefficients; and b) a measurement of the ranges of the coefficients of the structural equations.
