Abstract

A dynamic model of trade between a developed North and an underdeveloped South is constructed to examine the relationship between terms of trade movements between the products of two countries, and uneven development, defined as a continuous movement in the, ratio of productive capital used in the two countries against one of the then. The paper explores several different mechanisms which cause uneven development, and shows that for several interesting cases, uneven development goes hand in hand with terms of trade deterioration for the South, but that this correspondence does riot hold in general.
