Abstract

In a neoclassical interpretation of the process of modernization of Brazilian agriculture, some authors have defended the hypothesis that abundance of land and labor is the main explanation for the lack of agricultural modernization in Brazil yip to mid-sixties; at the same time, these authors sought to explain the productivity growth since then by the greater scarcity of these factors of production in some agricultural regions. I his paper uses a neoclassical model and concludes that the process of modernization of Brazilians agriculture has not followed the predictions of the induced inovation hypothesis; instead, technical change has been biased in favor of scarce factors and against abundant factors.
