Intergenerational transfer of child labour in Brazil

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the existence of the intergenerational transmission of child labor in Brazil and country’s geographic regions, using as an analytical framework the multinomial logit model. The results stressed the intergenerational transmission of child labor, highlighting its greatest impact on the idleness of children. Moreover, the Brazilian geographic region in which we observed the greatest impact was the Northeast. We also emphasize the important role of education of the household reference person to explain the incidence of child labor. Thus, it is believed that these results may help the formulation of public policies in order to reduce the incidence of child labor in Brazil.
